Ensuring safety of the Surat City, in 2011 the then Police Commissioner Shri Rakesh Asthana and his team appointed Laljibhai as a President of Traffic-Education-Trust and planned to install CCTV cameras in the City under Public-Private-Partnership model. To accomplish this project philanthropic people of Surat graciously donated INR30 crore. The city is now under surveillance of 604 HD-CCTV cameras.
The City is feeling safe with the installation of HD-CCTV cameras throughout the city. As a fruit of this project 27 percent crimes are reduced. Moreover, kidnapping, robbery, accidents and other traffic related problems has been decreased. First-of-its-kind in India, this PPP project has been awarded and acknowledged by State and Central Government.
Laljibhai Patel is always been forefront for his contribution in various societal initiatives. Most of them are planned and executed by his own expenses, like, building schools in tribal region, created 333 toilets in support of Swachch-Bharat-Abhiyan, concluded more than 250 marriages of needy daughters, free-of-charge treatment and medication to the needy, ambulance service, aid of equipment and artificial limbs to disables, constructed old-age home and last but not least he contributed INR4.31 crore to Clean Ganga Mission by winning Suit of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the auction.
